The Aurora Project internships and training opportunities

Applications for the Aurora Project’s summer 2014/2015 round of internships are now open.

There are two internship streams tailored to Anthropology and Social Science candidates and to Legal candidates. Students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. The Aurora Project is also offering a free 3day Introduction to Native Title Anthropology workshop. Aurora interns and Anthropologists recently employed with a NTRB will be given priority. However, all students and recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in Native Title are welcome to apply. Aboriginal Children's Day 2014

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is celebrated across Australia each year on 4 August.

Children’s Day, and the week leading up to it, is a time to for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to celebrate the strengths and culture of their children. The day is an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that community, culture and family play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

In 2014 Children’s Day will focus on celebrating the positive role culture plays in children’s safety and wellbeing. This year’s theme is: Kids in Culture – Strong, Proud, Resilient.

Bloodwood Tree Career Expo in Hedland

Bloodwood Tree Association is holding a Career and Try-A-Trade Expo at the Hedland Senior High School oval on 29 August 2014, from 8:30 am – 2pm. The Expo is an annual event to allow people to explore a wide range of career opportunities on offer in Port Hedland and beyond.

The Bloodwood Tree Association is an Aboriginal Corporation established in 1977 which helps support the community in many ways, including training and work ready programs, substance abuse support, and support for the homeless. Indigenous Advanced Management Scholarships

The Australian Institute of Management WA (AIM WA) is offering two full scholarship places for Indigenous participants to attend the Advanced Management Program (AMP) in September. The scholarship is funded by BHPB and includes the full program fee (inclusive of meals and accommodation), travel, transfers, and transit fees of up to $2000 if the participant is coming from elsewhere in Australia. .

The Advanced Management Program is run by AIM WA and the University of Western Australia Business School. The program runs from 7th – 12th September and will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to take the next step in executive leadership.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week!

NAIDOC Week began yesterday with events held throughout Australia.

The NAIDOC theme for 2014 is Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond. This theme honours all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have fought for the defence of country.

YMAC staff joined many other organisations at the NAIDOC Opening ceremony where a number of outstanding acts performed with further celebrations to follow in the Pilbara and Yamatji regions.

Scholarship opportunity to attend international leadership program

The Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation in conjunction with Chief Executive Women is offering scholarship to attend the Leading for Results Program at top business school INSEAD in Singapore. Applications are open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with over 5 years experience as a manager.

The five day program will run in December 2014 and aims to transform the leadership abilities of managers  with a focus on the global business environment. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to communicated a compelling vision and inspire others to exceptional achieve results. Overseas higher education study tour for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

The Aurora Project is seeking applications from high achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduates in any field of study, who have completed at least two years of their course of study.  University graduates are also welcome to apply.

The group of successful applicants (around 15 in total) will leave Australia in late October or early November and spend approximately 2½ weeks in the US visiting several top-tier universities and approximately 2 weeks at Cambridge and Oxford in the UK.  All costs associated with travel, accommodation and meals will be covered by Aurora and its supporters.
