Heritage Services

YMAC is a strong representative and advocate for the interests of Traditional Owners in the Pilbara and Yamatji regions. This focus on Traditional Owners and their knowledge, beliefs and values underpins our heritage management strategy at all times.

Our Heritage team provides a range of heritage services to the native title groups we represent via service agreements. The services provided are dependent on the unique requirements of our client and are guided by them. The Heritage team works together with native title parties to handle all – or parts – of the heritage process.

We are committed to using our experience to building internal capability within groups and their Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC), to place First Nations peoples front and centre of decision-making and management of their heritage.

Heritage Protection

YMAC assists Traditional Owners with the protection of Country and Culture. YMAC provides heritage advice to native title groups and Aboriginal corporations, in relation to proposed heritage agreements.

We are also leading advocates for law reform to achieve stronger heritage protection for Traditional Owners. You can read more about our advocacy work in our Law Reform section.

The Heritage team can assist groups with responding to requests from mining companies and other land developers that impact heritage sites under Section 18 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (WA).

For more information, please contact your nearest YMAC office.

Country is our mother, the provider and keeper of cultural belongings. Country and Culture go together. You can’t have one without the other.

Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners and custodians throughout Western Australia, and on whose Country we work. We acknowledge and respect their deep connection to their lands and waterways.

We honour and pay respect to Elders, and to their ancestors who survived and cared for Country.

Our offices are located on Whadjuk Country, Southern Yamatji Country, Yinggarda Country, Kariyarra Country, and Yawuru Country. We recognise the continuing culture, traditions, stories and living cultures on these lands and commit to building a brighter future together.
