WA Better by Nature campaign
YMAC is both proud and excited to be part of a new alliance with the Pew Charitable Trusts and a range of other key organisations on the “WA Better by Nature” campaign.
This partnership is focused on looking after and safeguarding what makes WA so unique – including its landscapes, animals, and plants, as well as the communities that call this amazing state home – and will undertake actions to conserve its natural and cultural assets.
“Western Australia has the opportunity to lead the way in demonstrating how we can all do better by nature; because once it’s gone, how do we get it back?” – Mr Peter Windie, Co-Chairperson, Yamatji Region |
Advocating on behalf of the Traditional Owners YMAC works with across the Mid West, Gascoyne, Murchison and Pilbara regions – to help ensure their interests and aspirations in such conservation efforts are prioritised – is a fundamental part of the work YMAC does.
Together, the alliance is seeking support for practical and proven solutions, including expanding our jointly managed national parks and strengthening Indigenous-led conservation and management efforts, which would create opportunities for jobs, cultural tourism, and give a boost to our regional economies.
“When you look after Country, Country looks after you. And that’s why we all have a role to play in looking after this land and all the life it sustains.” – Miss Natalie Parker, Co-Chairperson, Pilbara Region |
YMAC looks forward to seeing what the WA Better by Nature campaign can achieve and the benefits it will bring for all Western Australians as well as visitors to our incredible state.

Country is our mother, the provider and keeper of cultural belongings. Country and Culture go together. You can’t have one without the other.
Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners and custodians throughout Western Australia, and on whose Country we work. We acknowledge and respect their deep connection to their lands and waterways.
We honour and pay respect to Elders, and to their ancestors who survived and cared for Country.
Our offices are located on Whadjuk Country, Southern Yamatji Country, Kariyarra Country, and Yawuru Country. We recognise the continuing culture, traditions, stories and living cultures on these lands and commit to building a brighter future together.
