YMAC is currently seeking a full time (75 hours per fortnight) Senior Lawyer to join the team in our Perth office on a fixed 12-month contract. The primary aim of this role is to have effective and efficient day to day conduct of assigned native title related matters as well as other associated legal matters.

About You:

You will have a minimum of 5 years’ post admission experience in the provision of legal services. Experience in general and/or native title litigation, resources, and/or renewables law being highly regarded.

Successful applicants will be motivated team players with negotiating skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation. The ability to work under pressure, self-manage and work within a team environment is a must.

Relevant Experience

  • Tertiary Qualifications in law.
  • Five (5) plus years post admission experience in provision of legal services.
  • Experience in general and/or native title litigation, resources law, and renewables projects.
  • Experience working in regional or rural Australia with Indigenous people (not required however will be highly regarded).
  • Sound knowledge and ability to work in a manner consistent with good corporate governance.

Desirable Knowledge 

  • Sound knowledge of the laws and procedures in relation to:
    • Native Title.
    • Federal Court proceedings.
    • Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.
    • Mining and Petroleum and Renewable Energy.
    • The Environment.
    • Aboriginal corporations and governance.
    • WA land administration and tenure.
  • Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and Requirements.
  • Cultural awareness of relevant indigenous groups/bodies.
  • Sound knowledge of the WA political system.
