Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) is the Native Title Representative Body (NTRB), delivering native title and other services across the Pilbara, Mid West, Murchison and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. YMAC is run by a First Nations board of directors, representing several native title groups, each of whom have their own language, culture, traditions and protocols.

About the Role:

YMAC’s Research, Country and Culture Services (RC&CS) team provides Research, Heritage, Social Surrounds and Land & Sea Management services to PBC’s and Traditional Owners in the management of their Country and Culture. YMAC’s RC&CS is a skilled and coordinated team of archaeologists, anthropologists, environmental scientists, land and sea management specialists, ranger coordinators, managers and administrators who contribute to the ongoing empowerment of our clients – Aboriginal communities and organisations throughout the Yamatji and Pilbara regions.

YMAC is currently seeking a talented and committed Female Ranger Coordinator on a full time basis to provide direction and leadership for an established group of Nyangumarta rangers in their on-country environmental and cultural management activities (from Eighty Mile Beach to the Great Sandy Desert) and at their main base located in Bidyadanga Community. Working in diverse landscapes including, rolling desert dunes, freshwater mound springs with towering Paperbarks, hundreds of rocky outcrops and 80 Miles of pristine coastline. The ranger program is diverse with activities including managing feral animals and threatened species such as Bilby, Black Foot Rock Wallaby and the Northern Quoll. A nursery is being developed driven by the women ranger team as well as other projects focusing on recording language and school engagement. Working alongside the Male Ranger Coordinator, this role includes providing mentoring and coaching functions to the rangers and coordinating training activities with the training provider. This position will mainly focus on the female rangers currently operational, but will also regularly involve the coordination of the entire ranger group (male and female rangers).

This position reports directly to the IPA Coordinator, under the guidance of the YMAC Land and Sea Management Program Manager and the General Manager of the Nyangumarta Warrarn Aboriginal Corporation.

Whilst the position is to be based out of our Broome Office, the role will primarily be undertaken in Bidyadanga (M-Th) with regular field trips camping on Nyangumarta Country.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is passionate and kind, holds great care and enthusiasm for Country, and loves to collaborate with like-minded people. We are looking for someone who enjoys challenges and has the ability to manage people in a cross cultural team environment.

The ideal candidate will have qualifications and/or experience in either Natural Resource Management, anthropology, archaeology, community services or relevant field, demonstrated experience and confidence with working with Aboriginal communities (or other First Nations people), and/or coordinating on-the-ground natural and/or cultural resource management projects, preferably with Aboriginal organisations.
